On the journey from Christchurch to Greymouth, you’ll cross the heart of the South Island on the scenic Midland Line. The Midland Line follows a historic Maori trail over the spine of the South Island, with jaw-dropping scenery throughout. Upon reaching Greymouth, enjoy exploring this charming West Coast hub, packed with local history and rugged beaches. Or from Greymouth, start your onward journey down the West Coast to glacier country.

Alternatively, you can opt for a scenic day trip from Christchurch to to Arthur's Pass. After exploring, simply hop back on the afternoon train returning to Christchurch.
