Adrift Tongariro offers a unique opportunity to explore a section of the famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing on an easy evening walk with experienced guides. Short walks in Tongariro National Park are perfect for those wanting to experience a taste of the North Island's alpine scenery without committing to a full day hike.
The 2 hour Pre Sunset Guided Walk is set amongst Tongariro's iconic volcanic landscapes, with sights along the way including the Taranaki Falls and the Silica Rapids. Many of the landmarks you see today were formed by Mt Ruapehu eruptions as far back as 15,000 years ago. Your hiking guide will provide you with interesting insights into the history and geology of the area, making your experience even more enriching.
Once you reach the halfway point of your Tongariro short walk, enjoy a glass of bubbles while looking out over the majestic volcanic terrain. You will then start the return walk back, just in time to catch a spectacular sunset over Tongariro National Park.

Other Information
- Please bring: water, outdoor shoes with grip, long walking trousers, 2 warm tops & a waterproof raincoat
- Extra layering in winter is recommended
- You will have a $60 credit for equipment hire, any further gear can be hired for an additional cost
- Gear hire is available at the Adrift Tongariro Base prior to your departure: Boots $35; Clothing items $15 each; Clothing accessories (gloves, hats and sunglasses) $5 each; Backpacks $15 each
- Great for those who would like to experience the volcanic terrain but have limited fitness for the more strenuous full day treks
- Departure times will be confirmed upon booking (these can vary depending on the season)
- Adrift Tongariro's preferred route for this walk is the Taranaki Falls Track, but this can change to suit the ability of the group
